Three Suspects Appear in Court After South Surrey Shooting

The 3 suspects in an early morning extortion-related shooting in South Surrey appeared via video in Surrey Provincial Court Thursday (Feb. 5)

Three men charged in an extortion-related shooting in South Surrey made their first court appearance this week. The case is linked to an early morning incident on Feb. 1 in the Crescent Beach area, where shots were fired and a small fire was set outside a home. No one was hurt.

Police say officers were already patrolling the area when they received reports around 3:50 a.m. A suspect vehicle was found nearby, and the three men were later arrested after trying to leave the area in a rideshare vehicle. The fire was quickly put out, and damage from gunfire was confirmed.

The men appeared in Surrey Provincial Court by video and have each been charged with firing a gun into a building. Lawyers asked for more time to review the case and prepare for a bail hearing. One of the accused is still waiting for a lawyer.

All three will stay in custody until their next court date. This case is another sign of how seriously police and courts are treating violence tied to extortion.

Emergency crews quickly arrived at the scene. Paramedics gave medical care before taking the patient to hospital. For privacy reasons, officials did not say whether the injured person was the driver or someone else.

Police say the driver may have had a medical emergency, which likely caused the crash. The road was closed for a short time while police investigated, but it has since reopened.

City Updates

Surrey Speeds Up Free Pickup for Large Household Items

Large Item Pickup truck used by City of Surrey workers.

Getting rid of big household items in Surrey just got easier. The City has added more collection trucks, which means residents can now book a large item pickup in just two to three weeks instead of waiting longer.

Through the City’s Large Item Pickup program, residents can schedule free curbside pickup for bulky items like old furniture, mattresses, appliances, and electronics. Most homes can use the service up to six times a year, helping keep unwanted items out of parks, lanes, and empty lots.

City officials say the faster service is meant to reduce illegal dumping. Items left on the curb without a confirmed booking could result in fines. For those who need to get rid of items right away, Surrey also offers drop-off options at its recycling and waste facilities in Newton and North Surrey.

🔑 Key Details:

  • Large item pickups now scheduled within 2–3 weeks

  • Free service available up to six times per year for most homes

  • Unbooked curbside items may lead to fines
