B.C. Ends Clock Changes — Daylight Saving Time Becomes Permanent

The Province of British Columbia says it will stop changing the clocks every spring and fall. Premier David Eby announced that after March 8, the clocks will stay on summer time forever.
That means when we “spring forward” this March, we won’t “fall back” in November anymore. B.C. will stay on Pacific Daylight Time all year. The province says this change is about improving quality of life.
Some parts of northeastern B.C. already do not change their clocks. Those areas will now match most of the province year-round. However, the Golden area and parts of the Kootenays will still change their clocks, which means they will be one hour ahead in the summer.
Supporters say this could mean more daylight in the evening, fewer car crashes, and better routines for kids. Some business groups worry it could make cross-border trade more confusing.
🔑 Key Details:
• B.C. will stay on summer time permanently after March 8
• Most of the province will no longer change clocks twice a year
• Some regions in the Kootenays will still follow Mountain Time changes

Vacant 104 Ave Building Gets New Name, Now Up for Sale and Lease

District 104 complex on 104 Avenue and 148 Street in Surrey, on the Whalley/Guildford border, in a photo posted on collierscanada.com.
The large building on 104 Avenue in Surrey is finally getting a fresh start. The 271,000-square-foot complex, now called “District 104,” is up for sale and lease after sitting empty since 1998.
The building was recently sold in a $56.5 million court-ordered deal. It used to be called the Asian Centre. Work crews have started painting and renovating the space to bring it up to today’s building standards. The goal is to attract new office and retail businesses.
Colliers is marketing the property. They say there is strong interest from buyers and businesses that want to lease space. The building is being fully updated so people can safely walk through it and imagine new shops and offices inside.
The building has been empty for nearly 27 years. If it fills up with businesses, it could bring new jobs, services, and energy to the Whalley/Guildford area.
🔑 Key Details:
• The 271,000 sq. ft. building has been vacant since 1998
• It was sold in a $56.5 million court-ordered deal

Debate Grows Over Proposed 89 Townhomes Near Crescent Park Elementary

A large crowd packed Surrey City Hall to speak about a new townhome project planned near Crescent Park Elementary School in Ocean Park. The project would build 89 townhomes on land at 128 Street and 24 Avenue.
Many residents said they are worried about more traffic, crowded streets, and safety for kids walking to school. Some said traffic on 128 Street is already very busy. Others feel the area needs more housing options, especially for young people and seniors who want to stay in the community.
The developer, Qualico Developments, says the project would add new homes, wider sidewalks, and millions of dollars in city fees and taxes. City staff supported the plan, saying it fits the area and would improve the streetscape.
In the end, Surrey council voted to send the proposal back to staff. Council wants more public meetings and another traffic study before making a final decision.
🔑 Key Details:
• Proposal would add 89 townhomes near Crescent Park Elementary
• Residents raised concerns about traffic and safety
• Council voted to delay the decision for more review and study
