Surrey council has approved changes to the city’s sign bylaw. The goal is to make the rules clearer, speed up sign permit approvals, and reduce confusion for businesses.

City staff say the current sign bylaw was created in 1999 and needs updates to match how signs are used today. The new changes cover things like signs on upper levels of buildings, under-awning signs, canopy signs, and business identification signs.

The city says these updates should help reduce delays and cut down on the number of businesses needing special approvals. More sign bylaw updates are expected over the next year, including a larger review of light-up signs.

This could mean a smoother process for local businesses while still keeping rules in place to manage how signs look across the city.

Surrey Police say two men have been deported and a third man is facing drug trafficking charges after a four-month investigation called Project Phantom.

Police say the investigation began in February and led to a raid at a Surrey home on May 21. Officers seized about $891,000 worth of drugs, cash, and equipment.

Items seized included opium, cannabis, cocaine, fentanyl, methamphetamine, heroin, packaging materials, scales, and drug-processing equipment. Police say the fentanyl alone was estimated to equal about 23,400 lethal doses.

This is another example of police targeting drug trafficking and organized crime in the city. One man is now in custody, while two others were removed from Canada by border officials.

The Surrey-Langley SkyTrain project has released its latest construction update, sharing new progress and traffic changes along the route between 184 Street and 203 Street.

Crews are continuing work on Fraser Highway, where drivers may still see traffic reduced to one lane each way in some areas. The project also reached several milestones, including guideway work near the future Clayton Station and new spans installed near Langley City Station.

Station and power-system work is also moving ahead. Pile driving has wrapped up at the future Willowbrook Station, while construction continues on a new power station near 201A Street and Industrial Avenue.

This means the SkyTrain extension is taking shape, but drivers should keep planning for construction delays and traffic changes as work continues through the summer.

The Cloverdale BIA says more than 1,000 people have already responded to a survey about the future of the Cloverdale Fairgrounds. The survey was launched with the Cloverdale Community Association to ask residents what they want to see happen with the site.

The goal is to collect community feedback before future planning decisions are made. Local leaders say it is important for residents to speak up now, so the Fairgrounds can grow in a way that benefits Cloverdale and East Surrey.

The City of Surrey’s development team is expected to help create a long-term vision for the Fairgrounds. They will also speak with groups like the BIA, community association, chamber of commerce, rodeo association, and other local stakeholders.

This is a chance to help shape one of Cloverdale’s most important community spaces. As the area continues to grow, local input could help guide what comes next. Residents can take the survey here.

Fraser Valley Musical Theatre is bringing Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella to the Surrey Arts Centre this week. The Broadway-style version opens Friday, June 26 and runs until July 5.

This is not the classic Disney version many people know. The show includes new characters, fresh twists, two royal balls, and plenty of music, dancing, and comedy for all ages.

The production features a large cast, crew, orchestra, and volunteers from across the community. It is also being staged in memory of music director John Arsenault, who had hoped to help bring the show to life.

This is a chance to enjoy a big, family-friendly musical close to home while supporting local theatre and performers.
