The group is calling for more bus routes, better bus infrastructure, and safer walking routes to transit stops. They also say better sidewalks and lighting are needed in some areas to make transit safer.

Surrey council has approved a draft plan to grow the city’s agritech industry. Agritech uses technology to help farmers grow food more efficiently.
City leaders say the new strategy will help connect farmers with researchers, businesses, and schools. The goal is to support local food production while also creating new economic opportunities in Surrey.
Agriculture already plays a big role in the city. About one-third of Surrey’s land is in the Agricultural Land Reserve, and more than half of that land is actively farmed. Local farms produce crops such as blueberries, vegetables, and livestock feed.
The new strategy will focus on helping farmers adopt new technology and building stronger partnerships between farmers, universities, and agritech companies.

• Surrey council approved a draft agritech strategy for 2026
• The plan aims to connect farmers with technology and research
• About one-third of Surrey’s land is part of the Agricultural Land Reserve
Cloverdale Rodeo Secured for the Next Five Years

One of Surrey’s most popular events will continue for years to come. Surrey council has approved a new five-year agreement to keep the Cloverdale Rodeo and Country Fair running at the Cloverdale Fairgrounds.
The agreement is between the City and the Cloverdale Rodeo and Exhibition Association, which organizes the annual rodeo and fair. City leaders say the event is an important part of Surrey’s history and community life.
The city has helped support the event in recent years with funding and logistics. More than 60,000 people attended the rodeo and fair in 2025. The new agreement will allow organizers to plan future events more easily.
The city is also proposing to increase its yearly grant to help run the event. Organizers say the long-term agreement will help them continue improving the rodeo and fair each year.
The rodeo is one of the city’s biggest community festivals and brings visitors and local businesses together every spring.

Student’s Police Career Project Blocked by School Weapons Policy

Segovia’s son created his replica portion of his career project with cardboard, hot glue and pipe cleaners.
A Grade 10 student at Johnston Heights Secondary School ran into an unexpected problem while working on a school career project. The student created cardboard replicas of police equipment for a presentation about becoming a police officer.
The project included items like a radio, flashlight, baton, handcuffs, and a replica firearm made from cardboard and craft materials. However, school staff told the student he could not bring the replica firearm to school because of district safety rules.
Surrey Schools policies say students cannot bring weapons or replica weapons onto school property. Officials say realistic toy or replica guns can cause safety concerns because they can look real and may trigger a police response.
The student still completed his presentation but had to show photos and videos of the replicas instead of bringing them into the classroom. His mother says the experience was disappointing but hopes the situation will raise awareness about how school policies affect student projects.
🔑 Key Details:
• A Grade 10 student created cardboard replicas of police equipment for a project
• A replica firearm was not allowed on school property due to district policy
• The student completed the presentation using photos and videos instead
